Magnetometer survey of about 3.5 hectares.

Underlying geology: glacial sand and gravel.

Height above sea-level: 91 metres.

Aspect: site slopes markedly downwards from north-west to south-east.

The magnetometer survey is very good at giving us a snap shot of the many features which lie beneath the ground.

Excavation has revealed extensive 19th century robbing which makes it more difficult to interpret fieldwalking data from this site, even for the broadest of chronological phases.

Note that the alignment of modern fields (east-west) cuts across the alignment of the Romano-British landscape features (south-west to north-east).
